Due to the recent surge of COVID-19 in Los Angeles County we have decided that in the best interest of our students and staff to cancel Makos Surf Class until further notice. We are still offering private surf lessons.

What We Offer

Surf Class

Spend your summer on the beach and in the ocean! We teach children and teens how to surf with an emphasis on ocean safety and environmental stewardship.

  • For ages 8 – 17
  • Monday-Friday 
  • Weekly rate of $550
  • All equipment is provided
  • Prime location on Zuma Beach
  • Our experienced instructors are CPR and first aid certified, insured and permitted, have up-to-date police reference checks, and are great with kids of all ages.


Surf Lessons

Available year-round, we teach private and group surf lessons to children and adults with an emphasis on ocean safety and environmental stewardship.

  • For adults and children aged 5+
  • Private lessons for one to eight people
  • Group lessons for nine or more
  • All equipment is provided
  • Prime location on Zuma Beach 
  • Our experienced instructors are CPR and first aid certified, insured and permitted, and have up-to-date police reference checks.


Private Events

Whether you’re looking for a fun team-building event, or a spectacular private beach party we offer:

  • Corporate and private events
  • Experienced instructors who are CPR and first aid certified, insured and permitted, and have up-to-date police reference checks
  • All surfing equipment is provided
  • Prime location on Zuma Beach
  • Tents and tables are provided


Safety First


-Camp will be split into group sizes of 8 students and 2 instructors (sub groups of 4:1) to maintain proper social distancing. Group areas will be designated with Social distancing grids placed on the sand and different colored cone zones to help students keep 8 feet apart during lunch or down time.

-Instructor/ students will be kept in stable groups for the week. Students and instructors WILL NOT be allowed to change groups for any reason. Students MUST attend for entire week.

-Students will wear colored rash guards that sync with the colored cone zones to help keep them in proper area.

-Staff will wear cloth masks and gloves when practical and feasible.

-We will provide our own private VIP restroom that has a full service toilet and sink.

-Make available and encourage use of hand washing stations or hand sanitizer.

-Certain Staff members will be designated as “social distancing/personal hygiene coaches” to help ensure ALL safety protocols are followed thoroughly throughout the day.

-Wetsuits will undergo a multi-stage cleaning and sanitation process after each use.

-Surfboards, bodyboards and Equipment will be sanitized multiple times daily.

-Masks and gloves are provided for all groups and readily available.

-Students MUST provide their own lunches, snacks and water.

-Staggered snack and lunch times.

-Students must bring their own sunscreen to re-apply through day (instructors will guide them on how to self apply).

-Encourage physical distancing and support proper hand hygiene for staff, students and parents.

-If a student or staff member shows any signs or symptoms throughout the day, that child’s caregiver will be called and immediately sent home.


-Contactless drop off and pick up

-Parents will remain in their vehicles during drop-off and pick-up. Parents will not be allowed in or near the camp area this summer. The Carpool line instructions will be given by camp staff on location to parents. Parents will be emailed arrival and departure details.

-Campers will be screened daily for COVID-19 symptoms and exposure. Touch free digital temperate checks for students and staff prior to attending camp daily. If either a camper or staff member has a fever above 100.4 or are displaying symptoms of COVID-19, they will not be admitted.

-No camp transportation provided this summer.

-Designated entry and exit routes to limit direct contact with others as much as practicable.

-Minimize contact between camp staff, campers and families at the beginning and end of the day.
